RUNcation in NYC

New York City is one of the most popular travel destinations in the world. Did you know it’s also a destination for runners? Last October, I traveled via bus on a day trip in NYC to see a Broadway Play (Come From Away, it’s AMAZING). Before the show I planned an 8 mile run though Central Park.

I purchased a NYSC day pass for $10, I threw my gym bag in the locker (brought my own lock) and headed out towards Central Park on foot. I had a few city blocks of running before I found myself in Central Park.

Now, I’m not widely familiar with Central Park, I’ve been there a handful of times but I’ve never really explored Central Park. I did not preplan a running route, my plan was to run until my GPS watch hit 4 miles, then turn around and head back.

While in Central Park I found 100s of runners, I jumped into the crowd and followed the flow of traffic. NYC in October is a prime running destination for NYC marathon preparation. I did not venture out into the smaller paths and trails, mostly because I was on a time crunch due to the play.

NYSC has beautiful facilities, I highly recommend it. NYSC offers use of a shower, shower gel, shampoo, conditioner, lockers, towels and hair dryer. All of these amenities cut down on the amount of things I needed to pack in my bag.

This experience of running through Central Park has motivated me to do more running in NYC, that is why I registered for the Allstate Brooklyn Hot Chocolate 15K. I’ve been to Brooklyn only twice in my life but I’m excited to explore. The Allstate Hot Chocolate 5K/15K takes place in Prospect Park on April 27, 2019. The swag for the race is INSANE, a full-zip hoodie, finisher medal and CHOCOLATE. Registration price currently sits at $44 for the 5K and $64 for the 15K with increases on April 14th. Register now at Allstate Hot Chocolate and use code “BRBKLYN” for a FREE phone armband!
