Happy 2019!

Happy New Year!

2018 gave me a HUGE achievement, I finished my first full marathon! Coming off the accomplishment of finishing the Marine Corps Marathon, I would like to switch focus for 2019. I want to focus on the half marathon distance for pace and set a goal for a 2:20 finish time, which would be around a 10:40 minute per mile.

In 2018, I focused on distance and ignored my pace. My total mileage for 2018 was 703 miles; which is a leap from the 328 miles I ran in 2017. My fastest half marathon in 2018 was Pittsburgh Half Marathon with a finish time of 2:39 or a 12:11 minute per mile. In 2015, I ran the Buffalo Half Marathon in 2:17 or a 10:27 minute per miles pace and in 2014 I finished the Lehigh Valley Via in 2:21 or 10:46 minute per mile pace. A 2:20 finish is an attainable goal.

Since January and February offer crappy weather in Pennsylvania, I will incorporate swimming and weight training into my routine along with shorter speedwork runs and treadmill runs. In March I will start incorporating longer distances into my routine.

To test my progress I’m registered for the Rutgers Unite Half on April 14. The Rutgers Half is one of the largest half marathons in New Jersey and also offers an 8K distance. The race has a scenic course throughout the Rutgers University Campus in New Brunswick, NJ. Rutgers has one of the oldest college campuses in the nation and with a finish line on College Ave, it’s sure to be an amazing experience.

If you’re interested in running the Rutgers Unite Half Marathon or 8K, use promo code UNITEBR10 for 15% off registration.
