Back on My Feet

Disclaimer: I’m promoting Back on My Feet Mardi Gras Chaser 5K/10K as part of being a BibRave Pro. Learn more about becoming a BibRave Pro (ambassador), and check out BibRave.com to find and write race reviews!

I think the running community is one of the most supportive out there. When it comes to racing or training, as a runner, we understand that sometimes people fall short. I’ve rarely heard runners judging others for their finish times or a DNF . We understand, sometimes our run could be off; sickness, diet, trying new clothing or a late breakfast can all have an effect on our performance.  Sometimes a race doesn’t go as well as hoped, I remember a particular 15K which was slow for me because I had issues finding a restroom along the course.

It is no surprise that an organization named Back on My Feet is using running to help the homeless literally get back on their feet. Back on My Feet, a national organization operating in 12 major cities across the US, combats homelessness through the power of running, community support and essential employment and housing resources.

Back on My Feet finds individuals at homeless and addiction facilities around the country. These members commit to running 3 mornings per week and set goals allowing them to work with Back on My Feet to develop a road map to independence. Each member receives financial literacy and job skills training. They receive financial aid to help with housing, supplies and transportation.

Members range in age from 18 to over 65. 35% of members are veterans. 53% are African American, 31% Caucasian and 14% Hispanic. Some members have a college education, while others are working on their GED. Most of our members have families, with 60% having children.

Running is an amazing sport. It’s wonderful to see people using running as a way to change their lives. And let’s be honest, running touches millions of lives everyday.

If you’re in the Chicago area, join Back on My Feet by running the Mardi Gras Chaser 5/10K on Saturday March 2, 2019. Register HERE and support this amazing program. Use promo code “BR5OFF” at checkout, good for $5 off either distance!
